Fire! Fire!

Hello Everyone!

I haven’t posted anything for a very, very long time, but there is an explanation . . .

Early Monday morning on February 8th we were at home sleeping soundly and peacefully in our bed. Little did we know that there was a life-threatening emergency about to take us by surprise! Around 4 a.m. our little 3-legged chihuahua, Tripod, smelled a dangerous smell. He went to my husband’s side of the bed and barked until my husband woke up. [Tripod knows that I wear earplugs at night, and that I wouldn't hear him - Good Boy!!] Then Tripod lead John to a FIRE IN OUR HOUSE!!!

I hear you saying, “Fires aren’t that bad anymore because we have smoke alarms. They go off when the fire starts and we can get out of our house before the fire or smoke can hurt us!” We thought so, too! But, that’s not the way it worked!

Although the batteries in the smoke detector we only a few months old, the SMOKE DETECTORS DID NOT GO OFF! My husband woke up to thick black smoke in the bedroom. He ran to see where the fire was located and yelled to me to take the dogs and get out of the house. When I got up, the black smoke was down to the middle of my chest – from the ceiling! I grabbed Tripod and the fire-extinguisher and ran to the fire. Fortunately the flames were confined to a single room – our office! I hit the flames with the extinguisher and my husband poured on pitcher [1 gallon at a time] after pitcher of water until the fire appeared to be out. Meanwhile I ran to the neighbors house and called the fire department. They came and carried out the book case and table and other things that had been burned in the fire. They also opened the wall where it had been burned and doused everything liberally with water.

We are VERY, VERY LUCKY to be ALIVE! We are VERY, VERY LUCKY to have TRIPOD!

Oh! The smoke alarms DID SOUND but only AFTER I left the back door open and fresh air recirculated the smoke!

So the long and short of it is . . . Make sure to put BATTERY OPERATED smoke detectors in your house EVEN IF you already have them hard-wired into your electrical system!

And RESCUE A DOG FROM THE POUND HE/SHE MAY RESCUE YOU ONE DAY !!!

The house had to be gutted and everything replaced – almost every wall, all the insulation, etc, etc. We lost all our office equipment and stuff. We have been in a hotel, then a condo rental since the fire. All of our possessions have to be cleaned of smoke. We hope to be back in our house in another month or so.

NOW THAT I HAVE A COMPUTER AGAIN
I’LL BE BACK ONLINE RIGHT HERE!!!!

Bless you for sticking with me!!!
