Did You Turn Your Iron Off?
I own an iron that heats fast and irons well. There in one BIG problem with it though – it does NOT have an OFF switch. I have used it for years and have not had a problem remembering to unplug it when I am doing regular ironing. B-u-t . . .when I sew and need to iron pieces during the sewing process, I sometimes forget to unplug it every time I am finished.
I am in the process of sewing small household items and need to use the iron in my sewing area. It’s currently winter (or what passes for winter here in Arizona – LOL!) so a fan is not needed. But the outlet where my iron plugs in has a fan plugged into it from when it was HOT not long ago. This outlet also is attached to a wall switch so the electricity to the outlet has to be turned on with the switch. When I use the switch to turn on the outlet, it also turns on the fan.
WOW! What a concept! Turn on a fan or light near where you are using the iron. When you turn the iron on, also turn on the fan or light. When you turn the iron off, also turn off the fan or light. So if you feel the fan or see the light and you are NOT ironing you have a reminder to check the iron and make sure it is turned off. I know…it’s one more thing to remember.
HOWEVER – if you have a wall switch like mine then you simply turn off the wall switch and you know that BOTH the iron and the fan are OFF!
OR -> There are extension cords that have switches built in so that you can plug the iron and the fan into it and use the inline switch on the cord to turn them both on and off.
OR -> You can make your own extension cord with on-off switch by purchasing an extension cord of the correct volts/watts for your purpose. Then purchase an “inline switch” that simply pushes prongs into the cord to make the electric connections and screws together. Attach the inline-switch to the cord…and Viola! An easy reminder that your iron is REALY OFF!!
Happy Ironing!!
